I see two things going on here:

1. You hate a stereotype.

2. A little bit of knowledge has messed up your ability to judge objectively. For example the girl from Real World. I highly doubt you'd know her from anyone if she hadn't been on TV. You see? Simply KNOWING her history has colored your outlook. I saw this a LOT when I transitioned on the job. My co-workers, who obviously knew, treat me vastly different from our patients (I work in a hospital). Why? Because my co-workers KNOW. That little bit of knowledge totally destroys their ability to think objectively. Whereas my patients only see the women that's their to help them.

I would suggest speaking to a therapist about this because it sounds like this is bordering on phobia. You have bought hook line and sinker into stereotypes and that prevents you from seeing transsexual people as just that PEOPLE. Yes, we have a unique medical history; being born with a rare birth condition will do that. And that's the other half of the story you're not grasping: The outer packaging is only half the story. If you gave us a chance you'd be amazed at how "normal" we are (whatever that means).

Final question: Do you have these same fears about transsexual men? And if not, why?

Speak with a gender therapist. I say gender therapist because they know us. You see many regular therapists have the same misconceptions about transsexual people that you do.
